Workshop 15-WCES
The 2nd International Workshop on High Performance Computing for Weather, Climate, and solid Earth Sciences
(HPC-WCES 2015)
CALL FOR PAPERS
As part of
The International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation (HPCS 2015)
July 20 – July 24, 2015
The Hilton Amsterdam Hotel
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Extended Submission Deadline: April 24, 2015
Submissions could be for full papers, short papers, poster papers, or posters
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Most of the legacy and even some of the current advanced Weather, Climate or solid Earth Sciences (WCES) applications require code re-engineering, improving computational kernels, new parallel model design and new algorithms, in order to exploit new and emerging computational architectures and to increase the spatial resolution. At higher resolution, new physical aspects can be taken into account and integrated into the climate models. It is necessary to design scalable computational kernels and algorithms, as well as considering new approaches and paradigms which are better suited to exploit high levels of concurrency found in parallel HPC systems.
The workshop aims at discussing the state-of-the-art research in high-performance computing for WCES applications. Emphasis will be on novel advanced algorithms, formulations and simulations, as well as the related issues for computational environments and infrastructures.
The workshop aims also at facilitating communication among diverse scientific expertise geoscientists, applied mathematicians, computational and computer scientists to exchange advanced knowledge, insights and science discoveries.
The HPC-WCES Workshop topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:
Advanced numerical methods for WCES applications, such as FEM, FDM, FVM, Mesh-Free method, Particle method, and etc.
Scalability analysis of WCES models on high end computing infrastructures
Methodological approaches for performance analysis
Numerical algorithms and hybrid parallel approaches for WCES models.
Optimization and reengineering of WCES applications for both conventional multi- and many cores processors, and accelerators such as GPU, MIC.
Frameworks and tools for development of codes for WCES models for Peta/Exa Scale Systems.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS:
You are invited to submit original and unpublished research works on above and other topics related to High Performance Computing for Weather, Climate, and solid Earth Sciences. Submitted papers must not have been published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. For Regular papers, please submit a PDF copy of your full manuscript, not to exceed 8 double-column IEEE formatted pages, and include up to 6 keywords and an abstract of no more than 400 words. Additional pages will be charged additional fee. Submission should include a cover page with authors' names, affiliation addresses, fax numbers, phone numbers, and all authors email addresses. Please, indicate clearly the corresponding author(s). Short papers (up to 4 pages), poster papers and poster (please refer to http://hpcs2015.cisedu.info/home/cts-2015-posters for posters submission details) will also be accepted. Please specify the type of submission you have. Please include page numbers on all preliminary submissions to make it easier for reviewers to provide helpful comments.
Submit a PDF copy of your full manuscript to the Workshop paper submission site at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hpcwces2015. The submission will be acknowledge within 48 hours.
Only PDF files will be accepted, uploaded to the link above. Each paper will receive a minimum of three reviews. Papers will be selected based on their originality, relevance, significance, technical clarity and presentation. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted. At least one of the authors of each accepted paper will have to register and attend the HPCS 2015 conference to present the paper at the workshop.
Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published in the Conference proceedings. Instructions for final manuscript format and requirements will be posted on the HPCS 2015 Conference web site. It is our intent to have the proceedings formally published in hard and soft copies and be available at the time of the conference. The proceedings is projected to be included in the IEEE Digital Library and indexed in all major indexing services accordingly.
If you have any questions about paper submission or the workshop, please contact the workshop organizers.
